The End of the [World] a.k.a. La Petite Mort

Updated: May 18

Watch or Listen to The End of the [World] aka La Petite Mort

The three things I think about the most: Death, Sex, and French Fries. And they are all related.

In this mix, I've gathered songs and video for the end of the world that also function as reflections on intimacy, love, broken hearts, depression, and death. What ties it together is the idea that, looking at La Petite Mort, French for the little death, is a reference to orgasming.

Yes, the French call orgasms the little death. Why? Because we are closer to death during orgasms than we are during any other state of being. More than sleep!

So we experience death with sex, something that is way more associated with life. But talking about death and dying is another form of intimacy.

Just like french fries are. You share french fries with friends, loved ones. Sometimes, you have them by yourself.

While french fries only make one appearance on this visual tape, the rest is laced with death and sex. Tracks include Flying Lotus (of course), N.E.R.D., Childish Gambino, Tony Bruno, Gnarles Barkley, and Amy Winehouse. Footage is cut from Last Night, End of Evangelion, Fujiko Mine, and Final Fantasy VIII.

TL;DR: I'm always in a perpetual, dual mood: I want kiss. I want to dead.
